Default Nitrous Pressure Compensation Systems

Nitrous Pressure Compensation Systems

This tech article is to explain how a pressure compensation system works as well as the benefits and disadvantages.

What is a Pressure Compensation System?
A pressure compensation system is a system that is designed to compensate for bottle pressure loss. You may know this system from the slang terminology, “push system”. These systems work by using a separate bottle with compressed air or nitrogen that is regulated to a higher flow than the nitrous pressure. By regulating the flow of the compressed air or nitrogen into the nitrous bottle the nitrous pressure will maintain a constant and steady pressure until empty.

Advantages:
  • No bottle heater- Since the bottle pressure is regulated and maintains a constant and steady pressure there is no need for a bottle heater. Without a bottle heater there is less amp draw on the electrical system.
  • Constant bottle pressure - Since your bottle pressure will not drop throughout the pass your air fuel will not go rich towards the end of the pass. This means flat air fuel curves and ensures constant horsepower throughout the pass.
  • No need for two nitrous bottles on high horse power levels- Applications spraying high horse power levels will no longer need dual nitrous bottles to aid in the pressure drop you normally have without them.
Disadvantages:

1. Tune up change- By adding a compensation system your nitrous tune will change. By compressing the liquid nitrous you will see about 20 percent more flow out of the same nitrous jet. (No air bubbles = 100 percent compressed liquid nitrous). As a result on a wet nitrous system you will need to either increase your fuel jet by 20 percent or decrease your nitrous jet by 20 percent.

2. Sanction approval- Not all sanctions have approved these systems for some races and events. Check with the class rules before investing into a system you may not be able to use.

3. Added cost- There is an added cost into using one of these systems. You will have the system cost and additional bottles if needed. You will also have another bottle to have filled. Compressed air pump stations are a little pricey.

4. Bottle fills- Not everyone fills compressed air or nitrogen bottles. Since most systems are now using compressed air check with local paintball shops and speed shops to fill your bottle.

I hope that after reading this most of your questions have been answered. If you have any questions please feel free to give our tech department a call at 1-254-420-3630.

Thanks
Nitro Dave

The Nano System:

The Nano system is the first system brought to market as a complete off the shelf system designed to compensate in bottle pressure loss.

This system comes in 10 and 15lb configurations.

Universal and Competition Systems:

Universal- The universal system is designed to work with other nitrous manufactures bottle valves. Not all bottle valves will work. The bottle valve needs to have a port in the side of the valve that vents into the bottle. This port has to be separate from the main valve’s flow that feeds from the bottle’s pick up tube.

Competition System- The competition system comes with a high flow bottle valve. This valve is designed to flow enough volume for high horsepower levels by feeding the nitrous bottle through the accessory port in the side of the valve.

System Design:

The Nano system consist of a high pressure hoop wound bottle and special regulated valve. This special valve with the incorporated regulator comes pre set to 1050 psi.

This system installs a one way check valve fitting into the accessory port on the nitrous bottle valve. A hose will connect the Nano bottle to the nitrous bottle through the Nano bottles outlet fitting to the nitrous bottles check valve fitting.

The Nano system comes with a set of bottle brackets that are designed to hook under your current bottle brackets attaching the Nano bottle to the Nitrous bottle.

Yes you do still need to purge. What size shot are you running?

F8LJeep have you found a place that can fill the bottle with nitogen or air?

One of the universal setups will work just fine for what you're doing.

To give you some hints I was told some paint ball shops. I only know of one in St. Charles but I dont know the address or name of the shop. Also Sports Authority might want to try those if you havent thought about them already.

Anymore info?

This is qutoed from a memeber on a Jeep board who had a Nano system?

I though it was a major pain the the ass, so I sold it. Anytime it's fairly warm out, the bottle will warm up and requires cooling. So, even if you won't need a bottle heater for the nitrous, you will need ice to keep the bottles cooler than 85F. That's right, instead of having to heat the nitrous you will now have to cool it down.

One of the valves was a pita too. Every time I shut the valve to the nitrogen bottle, I would have to disconnect and reconnect the hose feeding it to the nitrous bottle, or it wouldn't flow. I learned this after running extremely rich a few times out and witnessing my bottle pressure drop prematurely.

As I said, I found it to be a big pita. However, others love it and swear by it. I think you should go on the lxforum and read up on it before you decide. There are several guys running them over there and they love it. I found the most information at the ls1tech forum.

That's the first time I've heard someone say something bad about the system.

Is there anyone who can comment on the Nano system with problems like the person I quoted had?

I used mine when it was over 85 out and never had the pressure over exactly what it was suspose to be. I dont understand how compressed air would over heat a bottle??

Default Nitrous Pressure Compensation Systems

Hope this isn't a dumb question but would a car that is running a 100shot and Nano be faster then the same car running a 125 shot and bottle warmer?

Both should be almost comperable but the Nano car would have the benifit of no pressure lose during the run so it might be a little faster in the long run.
